211 On-Call Lactation Support Counselor – Part time

Program Description: Inland Empire United Way’s 211 San Bernardino County Initiative provides timely, effective access to accurate and comprehensive information and referrals for the residents of San Bernardino County, provides public information support in times of disaster and answers several specialized lines for assistance in such areas as CalFresh, child abuse reporting, reentry and after hours calls for other agencies. 211 San Bernardino County is the trusted source of verified health and social service information, designed to assist people in overcoming barriers. San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, through funding from First 5, has contracted services with 211 to provide a 24 hour support line to all county residents in need of lactation support services as part of a new comprehensive lactation support program called BONUS (Babies Optimal Nutrition with Ultimate Support). Position Overview: United Way 211 in San Bernardino County has openings for several Lactation Support Counselors who are lactation consultants and/or certificated lactation educator counselors to provide lactation support services through a 24 hour support line. Services will be advertised to all county residents. The individuals will be provided with the necessary technology and equipment to work from home. Work schedules will be assessed upon the application and interview process. This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Essential Functions: Assisting the Callers: • Respond to pager notifications by returning calls efficiently and according to standards • Assess needs of callers and assist with breastfeeding questions/concerns • Refer callers to appropriate resources • Successfully maintain performance parameters and learn through various means Administrative/Clerical Duties: • Collect caller data and enter data accurately into database • Attend meetings or trainings provided by United Way or the Bonus Program.
Requirements & Qualifications: • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners – or – Certificated Lactation Educator Counselor • High speed internet access from home • Strong computer skills with expertise in Windows and Microsoft Office • Call center/customer service experience • Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery including, communications equipment and office machines such as computers, calculators, facsimile, copiers, telephones and headsets, etc. This position requires extensive keyboard entry of data into multiple systems and/or documents. Visual acuity and manual dexterity required for typing and computer use. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may require the ability to stand, stoop, squat, for long periods of time. Salary Range and Benefits: Individuals will receive on-call compensation and be required to return a call or page as soon as possible but not to exceed sixty (60) minutes. On-call time shall be compensated at the rate of $3.25 for each full hour of duty or portion thereof. On-call time shall not count as hours worked. On-call compensation will suspend when the individual begins work on an active call. At the time the individual begins work on an active call, the rate of pay will be $17.00/hour for IBCLCs and $13.00/hour for non-IBCLCs. The individual will resume on-call duty and pay upon the completion of one hour of work if no additional calls are received during that time. Benefits include accrued sick leave and the option to participate in a 403(b) retirement plan. Double time is paid for all hours worked on a holiday.
